I'm Warren, and I live in Perth, Western Australia, where I was born and have lived since. On this page you will find all that you are likely to want to know about me, and probably more. Work
I spend my weekdays working as a Senior System Administrator for CalorieKing, where I am responsible for infrastructure (systems and networks) both in the USA and Australia. Previously I have worked as a consultant and sub-contractor for several IT consultancies working with Linux, BSD and Unix based systems, as well as Mac OS X and Windows/Citrix systems, and as a System and Network Administrator for a local ISP providing dial-up internet, web and e-mail hosting, and other related services.
I also have an entrepreneurial streak, and operate a number of commercial web sites, and have previously run a small ISP providing web hosting and e-mail services to local businesses.
Almost Work
I am the maintainer of Planet SysAdmin, a blog aggregator for System Administration related blogs.
I currently hold membership of the following organisations:
- Western Australian Internet Association (WAIA)
- Electronic Frontiers Australia (EFA)
- The System Administrators Guild of Australia (SAGE-AU)
- The Internet Society of Australia (ISOC-AU)
- Bur.st — a local non profit ISP
I also previously sat on the Executive Committee (2003-2005) of the Western Australian Internet Association, who run WAIX, among other stuff.
I am currently working towards attaining the following professional certifications:
- PostgreSQL CE (SRA OSS) (PostgreSQL Certified Engineer)
- FNCNE (Foundry Networks Certified Network Engineer)
- FNCL4-7P (Foundry Networks Certified Layer 4-7 Professional)
- CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional)
Not work at all
When I'm not working, you'll most likely find me catching up with friends over good food, coffee, wine, scotch whiskey, beer, or some combination of or all of the above. I also enjoy rogaining, 4x4'ing (and driving in general), photography, working on my websites, movies of all genres, and a wide variety of music (particularly drum and bass and other electronic genres).
